Japan – Shikoku Island: October 2023

It seems like only yesterday, after getting back from Greece, that I swore I would not do another of these “challenging” Epic Tours. That said, Time and Old Age takes the sharp edges off those “unpleasant” memories. Well, that and those pesky emails from Ride and Seek describing their newest tours. Once we saw the Japan edition, it was game on – mostly to convince the better halves that this was a required outing – even though those two would be taking care of the home fires while we were off pedaling along side some cultural rice paddie/Buddhist Temple and chowing down on sushi.

We did use the age argument, also. In fact had it not been for my rapidly advancing years, this probably would have been tossed on the trash heap of good ideas gone bad.

So, here we go – with my limited Blog experience, I will attempt to describe the ins and outs of our latest boondoggle. I am leaving the Croatia trip up, and will just add Japan on top. Hopefully that works.

Ride and Seek is a bike tour company that specializes in small groups and more difficult rides. You also get a bit of history along the way – they take the time to point out what the heck was that stuff on the route. You stay in nice hotels (I gave up my right to sleep in a tent after putting in 70 miles on a bike), eat good, local food and you don’t have to carry a bunch of baggage on your bike, leaving you free to fly like the wind – downhill. Croatia to Greece: September 2021

Doug Mahlum and his son, Bridger, are taking on the roads of Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece over 16 days with Ride and Seek Tours.

Why are we doing this? Well, two things to remember – you only live once and I ain’t gettin’ any younger. Bridger had some vacation time built up so we figured it was time to get this done.
